Mackerel

Sardines!

What's the number after one? Oh yeah... two.

Here's another update on my life if you aren't too distracted by Dancing With The Stars:

Everything is excellent. Classes are good. My friends and I have been having a lot of good discussions about keyboards and Swiss cheese and John Mabry. My pet fish Horatio is doing swimmingly.

This week, I'd like to highlight my CLC, which is a small group of students who get together every week to talk about their lives and try to grow closer to Jesus. Since joining at the beginning of this semester, I feel like I have grown closer to the Redeemer and to many of my classmates. It has been an excellent experience and I look forward to continuing with it.

Well that's about it.

My Shoes Are Xylophones!

Hey there, friends,

Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side. Ha ha ha ha... ahhh of course that is just a joke and in no way reflects the official position or stance of Rockhurst University.

On the more serious side, I'd like to say that everything is going just swell for me right now. I had my right toe surgically removed and replaced with a platinum one that gives me extra strength and extra stamina, so I'm studying at an extremely high level right now.

Additionally, my classes are excellent! I'd like to take this time to highlight the Advanced Conversational Spanish course I am taking right now. It is taught by Dr. Duncan, who has been extremely helpful (not to mention entertaining) as I stumble my way through another year learning the language of Pablo Picasso, Pablo Neruda, and Javier Bardem in the movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Some people have said that Spanish is the French of Costa Rica. This is accurate.

Well adios, amigos.

Week 2, Year Dos

A Special Hello To Anyone Celebrating Their 112th Birthday Today--

Back again, again! How about those Cardinals, huh? Falling further and further behind the Reds. That's disappointing, of course. But I'm still holding out for the wild card and maybe Pujols winning the Triple Crown. Keep those fingers crossed!

On the academic front, things are still going well. Have you ever noticed that "Raft on not far" is a palindrome. I was just thinking of that... But back to the academic side. I've really started to enjoy my Rhetoric class with Dr. Charles Kovich. We just read "Phaedrus" by Plato. It's interesting to contrast Socrates'/Plato's views on what rhetoric should be (a way to communicate with the soul of another) to Aristotle's more "practical" view. I guess I'm in the former camp rather than the latter. It's debates like those, though, that make the class so interesting.

Last Wednesday, my friends and I went miming in the Plaza. It was a heckuva lot of fun and I'm hoping to do it again sometime. Miming is a subtle art and I'm working to master it.
Well that's it for now.

Week 1, Year Dos

Hello Blog Readers and Ocean Creatures,

Back again! Here we are, in the second year. If you're wondering what I did this summer, then just look up at the picture. That thing on my face took me a mere 73 days to grow (not that I was keeping an exact count or anything like that.) For all you mustache fans out there, know that the upper lip hair is still my favorite kind of facial growth. But if we are to ever reconcile with our bearded brothers, then we must be willing to join them and walk around in their facial "shoes" for awhile. That is the only way to get peace.

Rockhurst is as solid as ever. There have been some renovations around campus this summer, and the place is gorgeous this time of year. I've been hanging out around the new St. Ignatius statue, sitting on the benches, doing some thinking. Additionally, the McGee Parking Lot appears to have been re-asphalted, a move that has been applauded by students, tires, and H. Ross Perot alike.

Classes are going well. My favorite so far has been economics. I think it was either Calvin Coolidge or Emilio Estevez who said "The business of America is business." Though I consider myself a loyal patriot, I have never had much interest in business and so was skeptical going into Econ 2000, a pre-req to a political science major. To my surprise, I have enjoyed the class thoroughly, thanks in large part to the superb and welcoming teaching style of Dr. Stellern, my professor. He's a good, knowledgable, dependable maestro.

Well thanks for reading and, if you get a chance, learn to play the mandolin.

Why?

The Department of Aviation

This came to me in a dream a few nights ago whilst I was lying on my (soft) bed. I would say something corny like this is the kind of inspiration you can get while you're at Rockhurst, etc. but I'm too lazy.

The Department of Aviation
A Poem by Harry Crishna

I am an aid in the Department of Aviation--
our planes go just south of creation.
The further you go, the further you are from where you're meant to be,
and if your flight does not arrive on time, don't you calling me.
Because I have already booked my luxury vacation
with great consternation at your exact same destination.

Well, I hoped you liked it. Life at Rockhurst has been busy, but we keep pushing through. In the words of Walt Whitman, "Onward, pioneers."

Hare Krishna,
Harry Crishna

Hello Jimi Hendrix!

Hello Jimi Hendrix!

The year is quickly winding to a close. Is it already April 30th. (Insert pause here where I think about glancing down at the calendar on my computer screen only to find that I am too lazy). I took my Spanish oral proficiency exam today. I felt like it really went well, so I'm in a pretty good mood.

Looking back on my first semester at Rockhurst, I can honestly say that there have been ups and downs, but through it all, the people I have met here have made it all worth it. They have names like Greg Smith and Ryan Andrews and John Tarlasky-- monikers that may not mean much to you, but that now mean the world to me. I have attached a picture here of my friend, Greg AKA Antonius Charmoix.

Cheers!
